Mouthguards/Occlusal SplintsWe recommend night mouth guards when we see signs of clenching or grinding your teeth. The symptoms we look for are neck pain, shoulder tension, frequent headaches, muscle spasms, scalloped edges of the tongue, flattened teeth, cracks in the teeth and jaw discomfort. People with periodontal problems often need a night guard as well, especially when bone and gum tissue recession can be attributed to clenching your teeth while you sleep.
Studies have shown that, during wakeful times, we place 80 psi of pressure on our teeth. The pressure receptors around the teeth tell our brain to stop the pressure when we are awake. While sleeping, however, up to 800 psi has been measured in the unconscious state. Over time, that can cause a lot of damage. A night guard will help keep the pressure under control.
Sports GuardsWhether you are an athlete or casual sports participant, you should wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth. We are a licensed provider of a new type of athletic mouth guard, Under Armour Performance Mouthwear, that is reported to actually enhance physical abilities while playing a variety of sports. According to the study, athletes experienced up to a 17 percent increase in strength, a 25 percent increase in endurance, and increased reaction time and reduced athletic stress. They have several different types to use with different sports ranging from football, baseball, golf, running, biking, and many more.
